MOGADISHU,
Sept 1 (Bernama) -- Putera 1Malaysia Club has proposed to sponsor a camp in
Somalia to shelter drought and famine victims. Its president Datuk Abdul Azeez
Abdul Rahim said the move was more practical compared to sending aid material
to the camps in view of the security risks.
"At
the same time, we would wait for further instructions from the prime minister
on whether we can set it up," he said. He was leading a humanitarian
mission comprising 55 club members including medical officers. They distributed
essentials at Badbado, the largest temporary settlement and also conducted
medical examinations.
According
to Abdul Azeez, other countries such as Turkey, Iran and Sudan have already set
up camps as a long-term measure to support the victims.
hi katrina..let's just hope that all medical aid, food supplies and clothes reach the targeted groups. i heard a lot of cases where these never reached the needy, or may be partial..
ReplyDeletethere were long queues and frustrations- too many unpleasant stories..
in my personal opinion, i don't trust many people out there, it will most likely fail, unless our men are there all the way to ensure that the goods don't get stolen/ hijacked along the way..
What are you humanitarian entities doing for the Libyan people in Sirte and Bani Walid who are under seige and bombardment for weeks?
